Our loving brother, uncle, cousin, and friend Jerry Clyde Monson passed away April 1, 2019 at age 62 surrounded by his family. Jerry was born to Garth and Shirley Monson in Stafford Arizona, on January 23, 1957. He was the fourth child of nine children. Jerry grew up in Ephraim, Utah and has fond memories of building a tree house, biking up to the swinging bridge and shopping at Mr. Lee’s store.
Jerry served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany from 1976-1978. He was actively involved at Snow College as Student-body Vice President and was the “Turkey Mascot” for Snow. He graduated with an Associates before going on to Utah State University. There he enjoyed singing with the Ambassadors, and dancing with a prestigious dance group, performing many solos.
He then graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Utah State University.
He served and earned the rank of Sergeant in the Utah National Guard Reserve for 12 years, which included the Utah National Guard Air Force.
Jerry taught 2nd grade at Sego Lilly Elementary for 28 years, and he also worked on the UEA Board, serving as a delegate for the UEA House. Jerry loved to travel. He has been to every continent in the world, and enjoyed the many wonders of nature, while holding the exotic animals found around the world. He had a deep love and concern for all animals.
Over the course of his life he was the owner of 12 cats and 1 dog. He considered these animals his kids. In the animal kingdom, Jerry is survived by his beloved Ranger, Rusty, and Carmel.
Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents, Garth and Shirley Monson. He is survived by his siblings, Dennis Monson (Melonie), Bruce Monson (Marilyn), Darlynn Menlove (Terry), Paul Monson (Leslie), Rick Monson (MaryAnn), David Monson (Christine), Shauna Wayman (Gerald), and Annette Monson.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, April 12th at the Neil O’Donnell & Sons Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Located at 372 E 100 S in Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13th, also at the Neil O’ Donnell & Sons Mortuary, at 10:30 a.m. with a viewing prior to funeral from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
