October 1, 1941-November 28, 2019
Richard J. “Rico” Archuleta Sr, 78, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 28, 2019 at his daughters home in North Salt Lake City. Rico had been battling complications from severe injuries he received in a car accident earlier this year. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosendo J. “Jimmy” Archuleta and Opal Bates, and brothers, Marcus and Gary Trujillo. He is survived by his brother, James J. Archuleta (Carol), and sisters, Rose Trujillo and Linda Silverstein; his sons, Clark Lystra (Bonny), Richard Archuleta, Jr., and his daughters, Lori Kerr, Stacie Gansen (Don), Angie Banford (Eric). He has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rico was born and raised in Salt Lake City and spent most of his life there. Rico was a member of the Catholic Church. He graduated from West High School. His dad was a great cook and shared his knowledge with him. This is where he grew a love and passion for cooking. He worked as a carpenter at Kennecott Copper until 1985. He finally was able to do what he loved most was to cook for many different restaurants and bars. He was known for making the best Chile Verde. His favorite pastime was going to the bar to have some beers with his friends and to watch sports. His other passion in life was being around his family. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. We find comfort that this was the day he passed away. He was an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys and University of Utah fan.
The family would like to thank IMC Hospital, St. Marks hospital, North Canyon Care Center and Rocky Mountain home health Care and Hospice. All the medical staff that were involved these past 10 months were so amazing. We can’t thank you enough.
Please join the family for a viewing and memorial service at Neil O’Donnell and Son’s Mortuary on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 6pm.
